Every great company has a story. Ours begins with one man, a pickup truck, a willingness to work hard, and a commitment to treating people right.

In 2005, DJ Thomas started a small business called “DJT Solutions”, specializing in sprinkler repairs throughout Utah. There wasn't a grand business plan or a large team, just a determination to provide honest work, dependable service, and quality craftsmanship.

One satisfied customer led to another. Referrals began to spread, relationships were built, and DJ quickly earned a reputation for being someone people could trust.
As opportunities grew, so did his knowledge. DJ began taking on excavation projects by renting equipment whenever a job required it. After years of renting, one of his suppliers challenged him with a simple question: "Why don't you buy your own machine?"
That investment changed everything.
Owning equipment opened the door to larger projects and allowed DJ to expand beyond sprinkler repairs into grading, excavation, retaining walls, irrigation systems, and complete landscape construction. What began as DJT Solutions eventually evolved into Modern Utah Landscape, a full-service design and construction company built on more than twenty years of experience.
Throughout that journey, DJ never lost sight of what mattered most. He built the business the old-fashioned way—through hard work, referrals, strong relationships with suppliers and contractors, and by standing behind every project. Long before online advertising and social media, he was building trust through the Yellow Pages, local partnerships, and one satisfied client at a time.
Today, DJ is still the driving force behind every project. As founder and owner, he remains actively involved from planning through construction, ensuring every landscape reflects the quality, craftsmanship, and attention to detail that have defined the company since day one.
More than anything, DJ is a family man. As a husband and father of four, he understands that an outdoor space is more than landscaping, it's where birthdays are celebrated, kids grow up playing outside, friends gather around the fire, and families create memories together.
That belief is what continues to drive Modern Utah Landscape today.
